Mossel Bay police make first arrest for alleged rape filmed at party


Police in Mossel Bay have made their first arrest in connection with the alleged rape of a grade 11 girl which took place at a party over the weekend.

The incident was also filmed on a cellphone camera and the footage shared with several children from school.

The 17-year-old learner, who is one of three suspects, was arrested on Monday night.

He is expected to make his first appearance in the Mosselbay Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old victim who is a grade 11 learner was drinking at a party over the weekend when she fell asleep.

It is alleged that she later woke up and discovered that she was undressed and had been raped.

A friend showed her a video of the incident where the boys were filmed raping her.

The suspects allegedly distributed the footage amongst fellow learners.

The victim has laid a rape charge at the KwaNonqaba police station and the video is currently in their possession.

Police are still looking for two 18-year-old boys who are also seen in the video.

A spokesperson says their arrests are imminent.
