A 26-year-old man has entered into a plea agreement with the State following his arrest for being in possession of child pornography in Mossel Bay.
The accused, Kayden Elliot, has been in custody since his arrest on the 2nd of February last year.
Elliot was arrested at the house he shares with his parents in Da Nova.
More than 200 images of child pornography were found on his cellphone.
Elliot appeared in the Mossel Bay Regional court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
He was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment, with five years suspended, provided he is not charged with similar crimes.
His details will also be entered into the national sex offender registry and recorded in the national child protection register.
The court heard that Elliot did not once ask for help before being arrested and that he would never have disclosed his crimes if it weren't for his arrest.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old teacher from Mossel Bay also appeared in the regional court on Wednesday on charges of rape and other sexual offences.
The suspect was arrested at Park Primary School in September 2023.
His name may not be released until he has pleaded to the charges against him.
The suspect is currently facing more than 19 charges which include rape, sexual assault and the exposing of children to pornography.
The alleged acts occurred between 2019 and 2020 at various places in Mossel Bay.
The teacher has been out on bail for over a year.
The case was postponed to the 28th of February for possible plea negotiations with the State.
