A middle aged man has been sentenced, two years after a young woman from Mossel Bay died when his vehicle struck her motorbike as he drove up a one way street.

A 56 year-old man pleaded guilty to charges of culpable homicide, drunk driving and reckless and negligent driving.

The 24 year old Letitia du Toit died in October 2012 after a Hyundai vehicle collided against her motorbike on a turnoff road near the Langeberg Mall in Mossel Bay.

The accused was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment that was suspended for five years.

He was also placed under house arrested for three years and must make a payment of R50 000 to the deceased's family.

The man is also not allowed to drink alcohol and must participate in community programmes.

He is however still employed in a company in which he holds a senior position.
