A Mossel Bay man who was allegedly among a group that looted a shop in the Dube informal settlement has died after being beaten by members of the local community.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, said the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning when a group of people from Asla Park looted four shops.
“Police arrived at the scene, but the looters fled in different directions,” he said.
Naidoo said the man was then caught by the community and assaulted and later died of his injuries in hospital.
He said Public Order Police Unit members were monitoring the situation.
