A 25-year-old man made his first appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he was charged with the murder of his girlfriend who is also the mother of his four-year-old.
Simon Jacobs was arrested on Saturday when his brother found the 20-year-old Yolin Kannemeyer, dead on the couple's sofa.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Malcolm Pojie says a preliminary investigation indicates that Kannemeyer was assaulted and beaten with a blunt object on Friday night.
He says the child was home during the incident.
Captain Pojie says more charges could be added as the investigation continues.
Jacobs will remain in custody until his next court appearance later this month.
