A man from Mossel Bay was arrested on Monday morning and remains in custody after he allegedly raped his 8 year old stepdaughter.
It is alleged that the incident took place Friday morning before the girl left for school.
Correspondent Louise Karsten reports that the child did not want to go home after school and told her teacher what her step-dad allegedly did to her.
The Mossel Bay Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was called in and a neighbor confirmed that he had heard the victim scream that same morning. The
girl was taken to a local hospital and treated for her injuries. The 44-year-old suspect will appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Tuesday
on a charge of rape.
Meanwhile, bail for a 46-year-old apostle from Mossel Bay was denied in the Mossel Bay court. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 16 year old girl during a recent church camp. The suspect has previously been charged with similar cases in other regions. The case was referred to the Regional Court.
