Mossel Bay detectives mourn death of beloved Colonel

Detectives at the Mossel Bay police station are mourning the death of their beloved Colonel, who had to be euthanised on Monday.

Colonel Tiger, a stray cat, was adopted by the Detective's Office in 2016 after they provided him with food and water.

Being streetwise, he earned his rank as Colonel for his no-nonsense approach to what he wants and when he wants it.

This stray cat has been a celebrity at the police station and has made the news on more than one occasion.

Colonel Tiger suffered from kidney failure and was in a lot of pain.

For his adoptive mom, Anne-Marie van Huizen, a clerk at the offices, it wasn't easy to share the news.

"We had to make the difficult decision to relieve Colonel Tiger of his pain," she said.

She says some of the detectives brought it to her attention during the weekend that Colonel Tiger is not himself.

"The vet confirmed that he was on his last legs," she said.

Colonel Tiger will be missed as will his strong presence, especially in the mornings.

The cat was known for his no-nonsense approach in the office, often napping on chairs, tables or wherever he desired.

In 2020, the detectives were worried when Tiger went missing for three weeks.

It was widely speculated that a female cat was involved in his disappearance.
