A 6 year old boy was admitted to the Mossel Bay Provincial Hospital in a critical condition this weekend after he was allegedly assaulted by a woman with a piece of wood.
The victim was hit several times over his face.
Members from the Mossel Bay Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit arrested the 28-year old woman on Monday morning.
The suspect, who lives with the boy's uncle, was allegedly angry at the child after he spilled water.
She then repeatedly hit the boy with a piece of wood in his face.
Neighbours called the local police who took the boy to hospital. The woman will appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate Court on Tuesday on a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The victim's condition has since improved and he is in a stable condition.
