More victims lay charges in connection with alleged Kirkwood accommodation scam


A Kirkwood woman, who allegedly deceived Wildsfees festival goers with promises of accommodation, is being investigated for fraud and theft under false pretences

Seven more people have filed complaints with the police since Algoa FM reported on the story yesterday.
One of the alleged victims, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she and ten of her friends lost a total of R7 700.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, confirmed that four cases were opened at Kareedouw on Monday, while another three charges were laid in Port Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, the organisers of the Spar Kirkwood Wildsfees said they would give their full co-operation to the police regarding the investigations.
Festival director, Jenni Honsbein says the woman in question is by no means part of the Wildsfees committee and has never been an agent who had arranged accommodation on their behalf.

She said that the management team of the Kirkwood Wildsfees had been alerted by the Kirkwood police and visitors to an alleged online accommodation scam, affecting people from as far afield as Polokwane to the north and Worcester to the south.
