The Eastern Cape Provincial Education Department plans to spend more than R295 million on schools in Nelson Mandela Bay during the 2012/13 financial year.
Included in the capital expenditure, is R71.1 million for the Sunshine Special School in Gamble Street, Uitenhage, and R34 million for the Quest Special School in South End.
The department also plans to build 92 pre-fabricated classrooms across the Metro, including eight at the Dagbreek Teachers Training College in Richmond Hill, while 12 schools will be fenced and renovations will be carried out at a further 16 institutions.
The work will be carried out by the Provincial Department of Roads and Public Works.
