More than 70 arrested in East London weekend operations

East London police and traffic officials arrested 74 suspects in joint operations over the weekend.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mtati Tana says the operations started on Friday, and were part of crime prevention efforts.
He says 48 were arrested for loitering and being drunk and disorderly in public, while 26 others are being held for more serious crimes, including drunken driving , burglary, possession of Mandrax and dagga, possession of suspected stolen property, robbery and assault .
The suspects will appear in the East London Magistrate court on Monday.
