A total of 70 169 pupils in the Eastern Cape have registered to write the Na-tional Senior Certificate examinations at the end of this year, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshega has told the National Assembly.
Replying to a written question from Annette Lovemore (DA), the Minister revealed that 32 597 had registered to write Mathematics and 37 571 Maths Literacy with 22 747 registered for phys-ical science and just 224 for Information Technology.
Of the 70 169 pupils, 4 164 will write Afrikaans Home Language; 8 337 English Home Language; 1 509 Sesotho Home Language and 56 774 IsiXhosa Home Language.
16 040 pupils are registered to write Tourism; 24 375 Business Studies’; 16 122 Accounting; 19 137 Economics; 15 894 Agricultural Sciences; 4 420 Com-puter Applications Technology (CAT); 16 449 History and 27 380 Geography.
