Monster tuna caught at PE competition

A massive 102.8 kilogram Tuna was caught 32 nautical miles off Cape Recife yesterday on day one of the BLG Logistics Tuna Classic, shattering the previous record of 92 kilograms.

The monster fish was caught be seasoned deep sea angler Andre' Wilkins JR of Klerksdorp and puts him in line for the grand prize of a Ford Ranger Double Cab, should his catch not be bettered when the competition ends on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkins was fishing off the boat Challenger, skippered by his father Andre Wilkins senior.

He said it was a race against time to land the fish and get back to PEDSAC in the PE before weigh-in closed at 5-30 pm.

Wilkins said the Tuna was so strong it had straightened the hook to nearly 30% and that he'd been very lucky not to lose it.
