The fourth mohair sale of the 2012 summer season on Tuesday dished up above average prices.
Mohair South Africa says this was a result of another good quality offering and strong competition amongst buyers.
General manager, Deon Saayman, says there was an overall sales clearance of 98%.
"I think what surprised us the most was the adult market which jumped up by about 10% on average. We did see some signs in the market that there was better interest from China but we didn't expect such a big jump," he said.
"All categories were up yesterday and we are sitting with an overall market indicator of R94 per kg which is very good and a positive sign for the rest of the season as well," he said.
Mohair SA says compared to the previous sale prices were as follows:
Kids (summer) up 4.4%
Young goats (summer) up 3.7%
Fine adults up 9.6%
Strong adults up 10.3%
Average up 4%
