Mnquma Municipality officials appear in court in Butterworth for fraud and corruption


Twelve municipal officials from Mnquma municipality appeared before the Butterworth Magistrate court today for Fraud, Corruption, and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act.

Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Fenis, said the 12 were arrested on Tuesday members of a multi-disciplinary task team, comprising the Hawks, Crime Intelligence, and SAPS detectives.

She said the arrests came in the wake of on-going investigations regarding alleged fraud and corruption in Eastern Cape Municipalities.

Captain Feni said the Municipal officials allegedly flouted tender procedures during the course of 2014 to 2016 when four tenders with a combined value of R37 million were allegedly unduly awarded to three companies.    

She said the 12 were released on warning and are due back in court on 25 May.

The accused are Luleka Nonyongo (39), Sakhumzi Madubela (38), Lusindiso Patric Boya (42), Amanda Ntamo (35), Grace Tasana (66), Ivy Sikhulu (46), which Feni said "formed the municipal Bid Evaluation Committee"

She said Kulile Clock (43), Lubabalo Manjingolo (30), Viwe Phindile Madolo (44), Primrose Vuyokazi Gonya (43), Dinyiswa Olga Mrwetyana (34), Zonwabele Plata (63) formed the Bid Adjudication Committee.
