It has been a month since a 25-year-old tour guide mysteriously disappeared from a wedding venue in Kariega in the Eastern Cape.
Roysten Kruger, who is registered at the Department of Tourism in the Western Cape, was driving a group of people from Beaufort West to a church event at the Hexagon wedding venue where he was last seen on Saturday the 20th of November.
At the time, police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart said when church members got ready to depart on Sunday the 21st they realised that Kruger was missing and the Pastor raised the alarm with local police.
The K9 unit immediately commenced with a search in the area, but due to a lot of rain, they were unable to pick up a scent.
It is alleged that a few days after Kruger's disappearance, community members found his camera.
Captain Swart confirmed to Algoa FM News that Kruger's camera was found hanging from a tree in the bushes near the venue and it was quickly established that the SD card had been removed.
During their initial investigation, Swart said that Kruger's phone had been switched off and his wallet and personal belongings left behind but she confirmed on Monday that his phone is now ringing although it is not being answered.
A family member who spoke to Algoa FM News said that Royston's daughter celebrated her seventh birthday last Saturday and that he was still in a long term relationship with the child's mother.
He said as a family they are absolutely devastated at the thought of having to spend Christmas without him.
Kruger has worked with several international tour groups but booked the job with the unknown church in his private capacity.
According to the family member, Kruger had no affiliation with the church, apart from transporting them to the venue in November.
Captain Swart said there was video footage taken from the Hexagon venue showing Kruger jumping over the wall, however, the family member said it was impossible for them to identify the person on the video as his face could not be seen.
Swart says they are working hand in hand with investigators from the Western Cape to get to the bottom of Kruger's disappearance.
She says it is still very much an active investigation and any person with information can contact the Investigating Officer detective Warrant Officer, André Lombard on 083 448 3169 or 041 996 3438.
