Missing Jacksonville woman found shot to death

The body of a Gqeberha woman who was reported missing last month was found with a gunshot wound to her head.

Police confirmed that 39-year-old Carla Groenewald's decomposed body was found in an open space between Khumalo Street and Old Uitenhage Street in Kwanoxolo on 29 July.

Groenewald was reported missing at the Bethelsdorp police station on 2 July by her husband, Ronald.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said SAPS Bethelsdorp opened a murder investigation when they discovered a woman's body on 29 July.

According to Van Rensburg, the body was already in a stage of decomposition.

Further investigation by police could confirm that the woman was indeed Groenewald.

"The post-mortem confirmed that she died due to a gunshot wound to the head," said Janse van Rensburg.

Anyone who can assist with information is asked to contact Detective Warrant Officer Attie Knoetze of the Bethelsdorp police station on 084 660 8003, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or visit their nearest police station.
