Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida lit up the lives of young boys at Khayalethu Youth Centre in Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday when she visited to assist with a R55 000 charitable handover from The Boardwalk.
Khayalethu Youth Centre provides intervention programmes and alternative care for 35 former street children.
The beauty queen took time out of her busy schedule to help The Boardwalk hand out stationery, school bags, school shoes, tracksuits and towels to the excited youngsters, aged eight to 18, who live at the centre in Theescombe.
Included in the donation was R10 000 cash, proceeds from fundraising held at The Boardwalk.
“We hope that these items bring some relief to Khayalethu and some enjoyment to these youngsters when they get to attend school with their new items,” said Tati Tsunke, Boardwalk General Manager.
Khayalethu head, Dr Marietjie van der Merwe, said The Boardwalk had been on board as a sponsor ever since she asked for a large pot for cooking 16 years ago. “They give kitchen and school items and take the boys out on functions, making such a difference to their lives and we really appreciate all their efforts.”
Van der Merwe said without such donations from the community and generous companies, Khayalethu would have had to close its doors many years ago.
