The 17-year-old teenager accused of shooting a Gqeberha policeman made a brief in-camera court appearance at the Nerina House, youth centre on Monday.
The youth, who cannot be named, is charged with the murder of Constable Callan Andrews and the theft of a state firearm.
Twenty-nine-year-old Andrews was gunned down in Helenvale on New Year's Eve, shortly after helping to push a broken-down police vehicle.
He later died in hospital.
On Monday, Eastern Cape Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana confirmed the 18-year-old who was arrested with the minor, was released as he could not be linked to the case.
"More arrests are imminent," Mhlakuvana added.
Meanwhile, Eastern Cape premier, Oscar Mabuyane, welcomed the arrest in the matter.
"I want to take this opportunity to extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family after losing this young man," he said.
The Premier also welcomed the arrest of an 8th suspect in the Lusikisiki mass murders, lauding law enforcement agencies for their tireless efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
