Cooperative Governance Minister, Richard Baloyi, met residents of Sterkspruit in the Eastern Cape on Sunday to discuss their grievances that is threatening to bring the town to a standstill.
The Sterkspruit Civic Association recently unveiled a mass action plan that included calling on businesses to shut-down.
Their grievances include allegations of corruption in the Senqu Municipality and that the municipality favours Lady Grey over Sterkspruit when it comes to service delivery.
Baloyi's spokepserson, Dr Nghamula Nkuna, says community leaders will report back to residents on the outcome of the meeting with the Minister on Monday.
Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, has slated attempts by the civic association to shut down the town.
Qoboshiyane described their planned action as nothing but a "melodramatic attempt at anarchy."
He says he believes that the planned protest "is not inspired by genuine service delivery issues."
Police said 100 additional officers have been sent to the town.
