A military colonel who committed an armed robbery at a police station in the Eastern Cape 18 years ago will finally begin serving his jail sentence.
Beeld reports today that a warrant of arrest was issued on Monday for Colonel Nceba Patrick Bobelo who was sentenced to 12 years for his role in the attack on the Ntabathemba police station in which two policemen were attacked and several firearms stolen.
Bobelo was one of four defendants who were convicted in 1995. He lost his appeal in 2001 but never began serving his sentence.
Beeld reports that Bobela was the commander of the military's Joint Tactical Headquarters in Mpumalanga before his arrest this week.
