Metro starts another round of budget hearings

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be holding its final series of public meetings on the 2012/2013 budget and integrated development plan next week.

The meetings will run from next Monday through to the 21st of June in the Northern Areas, Motherwell, Uitenhage and Veeplaas.

The budgets and integrated development plan have to be approved and passed by the end of the month before the new financial year starts in July.

Last week, the ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay lashed out at the municipality for failing to take the budget and IDP to its structures.

It also expressed its concerned at the recent service delivery protests which it said was an indication of dissatisfaction with the budget and IDP.

Meanwhile, executive mayor Zanoxolo Wayile, has blasted protesting residents for torching a municipal building.

Speaking at the hand-over of R4.5m in grant in aid to various NGO's and charity organisations on Monday, Wayile said one cannot demand services on the one hand and then destroy municipal property on the other.

He also praised the NGO's for their sterling work in assisting and uplifting local communities.
