Metro ready for Afcon games

Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and 4 training venues that have been identified for the African Cup of Nations are ready for the 4 teams that will play their group matches in the city.

This was confirmed when a high powered delegation of MECs and Local Organising Committee officials, led by Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile, did a site inspection of all the venues on Monday.

The African Soccer spectacle starts on the 19th of January at the FNB stadium in Soweto with a match between Bafana Bafana and Cape Verde.

Port Elizabeth hosts a double-header at the Nelson Mandela Stadium the next day with Ghana playing DR Congo at 3pm followed by Mali against Niger at 6pm.

At Monday's site inspections, Local Government MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane said he was convinced the Eastern Cape was ready to play its part in hosting Afcon 2013.
