Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Eugene Johnson, has vowed to support the grieving New Brighton family who lost three young children in a shack fire this past week.

On Saturday, Johnson was joined by officials from the football association, Cosafa which is hosting a tournament in the Metro, on a visit to the family to hand over donations.

Three children, five-year-old Thulani, three-year-old Lukwe, and Lanele, who was just 11 months old, perished in a fire that swept through a shack on Monday morning.

“We would like to reassure you that we are here for you during this difficult time. Our aim is to support you during your time of grief and pain,” said Johnson.

A teary Sue Destombes said: “We are now a part of this community as we have been hosting the Women’s Tournament in this City for five years. There are no words to describe the pain you must be feeling but we are here to share  your pain.”

The cause of the fire which killed the young siblings is under investigation.
