Domestic consumers could find themselves paying more than the 11.03% increase for electricity announced by the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality, depending on the amount of power they consume.
The municipality stresses, however, that the average domestic increase does not exceed 11.03%.
In terms of the tariffs presented to a joint meeting of the Mayoral and Budget and Treasury committees on Monday, there will be a zero percent increase for the first 350 kilowatt hours consumed, and the tariff will remain at 91.305 cents per kW hour.
From 350-600kWh consumed, the tariff will increase by 19.38%, while consumption above 600 kWh will attract a tariff incraese of 41.29%.
In both cases, the Metro has opted for the maximum increase permitted by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa.
