The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has sent notices of its intention to disconnect the electricity supply to 11 large consumers who are in dispute with the Municipality.
A report to be presented the Council's budget and treasury committee states that the increase in the amount of money outstanding was mainly due to these large consumers, presumably companies, paying just 75% of their bills since July.
Metrominute reports the parties are in dispute but the municipality says their dispute is not valid.
The total amount in arrears now stands at R1.75 billion, with just over a billion of this outstanding for more than a year.
