The IFP in KwaZulu Natal has called for urgent action to be taken against medical personnel who neglect mentally ill patients in the provinces health care facilities.
This after a mentally ill patient was found locked inside a ward, with burn wounds, on his own at the Wentworth Hospital in Durban.
Spokesperson Ncamisile Nkwanyana said the neglect of these patients is a serious concern and that incompetence and negligence have no place in our health care system.
She said managers and nurses should be better trained to do their job effectively.
The Department of Health said the patient was receiving the necessary medical treatment.
