Two suspects have been arrested at Addo in connection with the theft of lemons valued at R15 000.
Captain Mali Govender says Addo police received information on Wednesday of two men who had allegedly stolen lemons from a local orchard.
The members swooped on a house at Greenfields and caught the two suspects red-handed packing the lemons into bags.
Captain Govender says police seized 40 seven-kilogramme bags of lemons, five 50-kilogramme bags of lemons and loose lemons which could fill two 50-kilogramme bags.
The two men in their thirties face a charge of possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in the local magistrate’s court later this week.
Govender says stock losses have an enormous impact on the livelihood of all farmers including the orchard farming community and its employees who are dependent on the crop that they harvest.
She says police have a mammoth task when investigating criminal cases where crops are stolen, and rely on the community to provide information on crime and criminal activities.
