Two men arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s court next week for a formal bail application.
The boy was allegedly kidnapped outside a school after care centre in Mill Park on Friday.
The suspects, who are aged 31 and 32 are from the Port Elizabeth Northern Area’s, appeared in court on Tuesday. They are being held at Mount Road Police Station.
The state previously indicated that it would oppose bail.
The child and both parents cannot be named due to the sensitivity of the case.
Police earlier said that a third suspect was still at large.
According to court documents the child was taken to a business premises “Horison Saffin Solutions”, where he was held against his will on Friday afternoon.
The child then managed to alert a neighbour who came to the rescue. Police were alerted and the minor was returned to his parents later that night.
The charge sheet indicates that “the kidnappers demanded a sum of R50 000 from [the child’s] father”.
