Eastern Cape Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, has backed down on an earlier instruction to the Nelson Mandela Bay to reverse a vote of no confidence in acting municipal manager, Temba Hani.
Qoboshiyane confirmed late on Wednesday that he had decided to accept last week's Council resolution last week adopted after ANC councillors supported a DA motion of no confidence in Hani.
"I've considered the vote of no confidence that the Council of the Nelson Mandela Metro has passed against the municipal manager that was requested by them," he said.
Qoboshiyane said he's still "exploring giving them the opportunity to appoint their own acting municipal manager within a tighter timeframe until there's an appointment of a permanent person."
"I've indicated that with immediate that from today (Wednesday) that person (acting MM) must be there. Failure to do so the provincial executive of the province shall have to take a drastic position to revoke Section 139 support."
