Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane gave DA Member of the Provincial Legislature, Athol Trollip a cup of Magwa tea on Thursday afternoon during a portfolio committee meeting in the Bhisho Legislature.
In a recent newspaper article, Trollip rejected the department's business rescue process, currently underway to help the Magwa and Majola tea estates.
In line with the business rescue process for both Magwa and Majola tea estates, Qoboshiyane signed a cabinet memo to the provincial Executive Council of the province presenting proposed business rescue process.
Cabinet is expected to discuss the matter in its next meeting, look at the proposals from Qoboshiyane and interrogate proposed business rescue mechanism before taking a decision on the matter.
Qoboshiyane says the quality of Magwa tea is regarded as one of the best in the country, something that he says has inspired the department to assist the Magwa Tea Estate to become economically viable.
