The Department of Health in the Eastern Cape has doubled their efforts in the Province to test and screen for COVID 19.
MEC Sindiswa Gomba says a total number of 142 326 people have been screened in the province since the ‘mass screening campaign’ started and from the screening, 3 413 tests have been done.
The breakdown of cases is as follows:
Buffalo City Metro: 91 (72 from West Bank prison)
Nelson Mandela Bay Metro: 84
Chris Hani District: 21
Sarah Baartman District: 11
OR Tambo District: 9
Amathole District: 4
Total: 220
Gomba has confirmed that Nelson Mandela Bay recorded three deaths as a result of COVID19 whilst a fourth death was a woman from Butterworth who died East London’s Frere Hospital.
The other patients who died in Nelson Mandela Bay were two women, aged 65 and 66 and a 77-year-old man.
Two deaths were in the Livingstone Hospital and one at Dora Nginza.
