Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance MEC, Fikile Xasa, has strongly condemned Tuesday's violent protest in Kirkwood.
Residents from Moses Mabhida Township went on the rampage setting fire to a municipal building, an ANC office as well other property.
In a statement late on Tuesday, MEC Xasa called on the residents not to resolve service delivery issues through violent and destructive methods.
He says negotiations and constructive engagement should be the hallmark of resolving any challenges we face as a country.
MEC Xasa also called on the police to track down and arrest the culprits.
He says the Department of Cooperative Governance will send a team of officials to the municipality to investigate the cause of the protest action and find lasting solutions.
