Mayoral gown is SO last season

The red mayoral gown that was worn by Mossel Bay's respective mayors over the years, has seen its last days.

The gown, which dates from the colonial past, is according to Mossel Bay Mayor, Harry Levendal, heavy, too long and too warm to wear during meetings.

Levendal said that it will cost the municipality up to R6 000 to replace the faded gown, money he believes could be spend better elsewhere.

During the last council meeting, Levendal tripped over the long gown, and almost fell as he tried to sit on the mayoral chair.

Levendal says he will in future still honour the title as mayor by wearing the mayoral chain.
