Three Eastern Cape Post Offices were robbed in the last three days.
Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says the Post Office on the corner of 8th Avenue and Water Road, Port Elizabeth was the latest target.
On Saturday the Post Office in Peddie was robbed followed by the All Saints branch at Engcobo.
A Spokesperson for the Post Office Johan Kruger says the money stolen in the All Saints robbery was stained and is therefore worthless.
He urged traders and the public not to accept stained cash.
Meanwhile, Luzuko Qina, of the SA Social Security Agency in the Eastern Cape, also said that thousands of SASSA cards were compromised due to fraud, affecting 2800 grant beneficiaries country-wide.
Qina said 2200 of those cases were from other banks, with 600 fraud cases affecting SASSA cards which he says have all now been stopped.
He urged the affected beneficiaries to visit their local SASSA offices to make sure that they receive their grants.
In another incident at a Post Office on Monday, three suspects were shot and killed and two others wounded in a shoot-out with police during a robbery at a Post Office in Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga.
A police officer was also wounded in the incident while several other suspects were able to get away.
According to the SA Police Service, members were involved in an intelligence-driven operation when they responded to a robbery in progress at the Post Office.
A spokesperson said that as the group of armed robbers were busy off-loading money from a cash-in-transit vehicle outside the Post Office after holding up security officers, members of the multidisciplinary SAPS team intercepted them leading to a high-speed car chase and subsequent shoot-out.
Two vehicles were also hijacked by the fleeing gang.
Police said three vehicles used by the gang as well as some of the stolen money were recovered.
