Veteran journalist, Max du Preez said he wanted South Africans to change their outlook about the current state of the country and stop being pessimistic.
This was one of Du Preez's messages to delegates who attended the Dimension Data conference at the Boardwalk Convention Centre in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.
He said South Africans must try and see through all the dark fog of the Zuma era and start understanding the internal dynamics of the country's politics.
"So, whatever you do, understand the complexity of South Africa, the complexity of the ANC, the DA, the EFF. Suddenly when you understand it, South Africa doesn't look as dark," he told Algoa FM News.
Du Preez also said that voters participating in the May election should consider voting strategically, saying that "the country, at the moment, seems unsure of itself."
He said the political landscape was confusing for voters because there is far too much propaganda, angry rhetoric and the election campaigns of political parties are uninspiring.
He said in considering the track record of the major parties and their public behaviour in Parliament, voters may have to think about deciding more strategically about who they will support.
"I should vote for party X, not because I like them but I think to make their voice stronger will be good for our democracy," Du Preez said.
