The Gqeberha man who allegedly murdered his mother made another brief appearance in the city's high court on Monday.
Maurice Butlion, 33, is set to plead guilty to the crime when the case resumes on Tuesday.
Butlion's mother Sharon-Ann, 65, died in a suspicious fire in September two years ago.
Her partially burnt body was found inside her flat in Park Drive.
State Advocate Ismat Cerfontein told the court that the State and the Defence is on the verge of finalizing certain agreements.
Butlion spent 30 days at the Fort England Hospital in Makhanda, where he underwent a psychiatric evaluation.
A psychiatric report confirmed that he is fit to stand trial.
The report further stated that "at the time of the alleged offence, the accused was able to appreciate the wrongfulness of the act in question, and able to act in accordance with such appreciation of wrongfulness."
The report recommended that the law take its course.
Butlion has been in custody since his arrest on 14 September 2022
Acting Judge Ivana Bands postponed the matter to Tuesday.
