King Williams Town police have arrested a Western Cape man for being in possession of more than 800 units of perlemoen, worth an estimated R1-million.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Nkosikho Mzuku, says members of the police's crime prevention unit arrested the 32-year-old man on Monday afternoon.
He says the suspect was spotted driving a white bakkie with Gauteng number plates from Gansbaai in the Western Cape en route to East London.
Mzuku says police noticed liquid dripping from the back of the bakkie and stopped and questioned the driver.
He says police found found boxes filled with perlemoen at the back of the bakkie.
Mzuku says the suspect will appear in court on Thursday for contravening the Marine Living Resources Act of 1998.
