The number of Easter road fatalities has this year decreased by 48 per cent, in comparison to 2018, Transport Minister Bonginkosi Blade Nzimande said on Thursday.
Transport Minister Blade Nzimande says they are still, however, very concerned even by a single loss of life.
According to the stats, fatalities decreased in all provinces.
The fatalities per province are as follows:
KwaZulu-Natal - 37
Limpopo - 32
Eastern Cape - 22
Western Cape - 18
Mpumalanga - 17
Gauteng - 16
North West - 13
Free State - 4
Northern Cape - 3
The preliminary report covers the period 18 to 22 April.
Nzimande says this year they recorded 128 crashes, which is a 46% decrease, as compared to the 238 crashes recorded in 2018.
