Massive dagga bust on N2 outside PE

Police in Port Elizabeth have seized more than a million rands worth of dagga following a major bust on the N2 near Coega.

Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says a suspicious looking silver bakkie was spotted shortly after midnight, travelling from Colchester in the direction of Port Elizabeth.

Police followed the vehicle and a chase of about 5 km ensued.

Beetge says the driver suddenly stopped near Coega and disappeared in the dense bushes.

The bakkie was packed with about 17 bags of dagga worth more than R1.2 million rand.

Upon further investigation it was established that the vehicle was a rented car from George, fitted with false number plates.

The car will be sent for forensic tests.

The suspect managed to get away and is still at large.
