Major players in the maritime sector in Africa will be in Nelson Mandela Bay from Monday to Wednesday to attend the African Maritime Development Conference.
The conference will be held at the Boardwalk International Convention Centre and stakeholders from across the continent will deliberate on measures to build capacity and develop policy for sustainable value creation from the so-called "blue economy".
The conference was organised by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University at the request of the African Union and the International Ocean Institute of Southern Africa), in conjunction with the South African Maritime Safety Authority.
SAMSA says it is supporting the continental effort to extract economic value from the blue economy on the continent in a sustainable way, because the blue economy presents enormous development opportunities, which can help reduce unemployment, poverty, and inequality, especially in poverty stricken areas like the Eastern Cape.
