Port Elizabeth police are hunting those behind the killing of a man and his girlfriend in Helenvale in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that the incident happened on Elk Street in Helenvale.
She said residents heard gunshots after midnight but were too afraid to investigate.
“At about 03:30, the owner of a house in Elk Street found the bodies of a male and female lying on her veranda. Mark Damons (50) and his girlfriend, Tersia Malgas (42) were both found with a single gunshot wound to their heads.”
Naidu said the motive for the killings is unknown but it's suspect that Damons’ takkies were taken.
She said anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation should contact Gelvandale police.
