Mango to participate in PE Airshow

Low cost airline Mango will participate, for the first time, in the Baywest Port Elizabeth Airshow on Saturday 25 October shortly after 10:00am.

The airline’s new generation Boeing 737-800 is set to wow spectators when flanked in formation by the Silver Falcons at the event.

In addition, Mango will be hosting a Career Day at the event to provide information to learners on careers and opportunities within the aviation sector.

Earlier this year Mango participated in the Swartkops and Waterkloof (AAD) airshows.

“Sharing our absolute passion for aviation with South Africans inspires us to participate in airshows,” says Mango spokesperson Hein Kaiser.

“This is the first time we will enjoy the opportunity to participate in Nelson Mandela Bay alongside ace airmen the Silver Falcons; while also able to share information on careers in the sector with learners.” To date Mango has performed before over 55 000 spectators at 4 air shows and its Career Days have reached more than 40 000 learners nationally during the past 18 months.

Saturday is also a celebration.

Mango has increased its in and outbound frequencies to the Bay by up to 150% during peak times and has carried more than 300 000 Guests on the route since 2012.

“Port Elizabeth is a gateway to the Eastern Cape and remains an important centre on our radar,” says Kaiser, “and we intend to continue being an active member of the Nelson Mandela Bay community.”

The Mango Boeing 737-800 will be captained by legendary pilot Scully Levin, also the airline’s training captain.

Levin was recognized for his significant contribution to South African aviation when he was awarded the Order of the Baobab by President Jacob Zuma in 2012.

Captain Rodney Chinn will be the first officer on the flight.

The Baywest Port Elizabeth Airshow takes place at the South African Air Force Museum on the Port Elizabeth airport grounds.
