A white Scania truck worth R1.6 million was destroyed by fire when it was torched by at least four unknown suspects in Nelson Mandela Bay in the early hours of Monday morning.
Captain Andre Beetge says the vehicle belonged to one of the companies transporting manganese ore into the Metro.
It was hijacked around 3.30 am on the on-ramp going into Addo Road off the N2 near Motherwell before being set alight and destroyed.
The driver told the police that at least four men started throwing stones at his truck and when he stopped, they took his cell phone and ordered him to run away before setting his vehicle alight.
Captain Beetge said it was not a service delivery-related attack and that there had been no other incidents in the City.
