The Democratic Alliance says it will be laying criminal charges against the Director General of the Eastern Cape Government, Marion Mbina-Mthembu.
This, as it relates to the fallout from the Public Protector's damning report into the misappropriation of money meant to be spent on the funeral of former president Nelson Mandela.
The DA says Mbina-Mthembu had authorised the transfer of funds to corrupt entities and individuals during her time as Provincial Treasury Head.
Spokesperson, Mabine Seabe, says the charges will be laid in terms of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.
He says they will also submit the Public Protector's report on the Mandela funeral to the police to supplement an existing docket and ongoing investigation by the Hawks.
"It is quite clear that the ANC will do anything to advance a corrupt agenda even steal the people’s money in the name of former President Nelson Mandela" he added.
Meanwhile, the ANC in the Eastern Cape has reportedly summoned Premier Phumulo Masualle and several mayors of metros and municipalities to a meeting on Monday to account for the growing scandal.
According to reports, the meeting will take place at Calata House in King Williams Town.
In a public letter issued on Friday, Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, welcomed the release of the report by the Public Protector, saying that the public had been kept in the dark for too long.
Trollip said that he's committing the administration of Nelson Mandela Bay to fully investigate all the issues referred to them by the Public Protector's report.
The Eastern Cape government said it would provide a comprehensive response next week to the Public Protector's report.
