Gqeberha police are investigating an incident at the Baywest Mall where a 21-year-old man was wounded in the leg on Wednesday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says according to information the young man was standing at the front entrance to the centre with colleagues nearby when a shot was heard.
She said he fell to the ground with a wound to the upper leg.
Janse Van Rensburg said no one saw who fired the shot, nor was there any indication of anyone fleeing the scene.
She said the motive for the incident is still under investigation while a case of attempted murder was opened for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Baywest Mall confirmed the incident involving the trolley porter.
"SAPS is handling the investigation and will be the main point of contact for any queries on the incident. The porter was treated at a nearby health facility," the Mall said.
Baywest said they operated normally on Wednesday while, assuring that the "safety and security of our shoppers, employees and tenants remains our highest priority."
