Man wounded, dog killed in two Despatch home invasions

File

Eastern Cape police are investigating two home invasions in Despatch in which a man was wounded in one incident and a dog shot and killed in another reported incident.

A police spokesperson said the first incident was reported in Church Street at around 3.40 am on Tuesday when a woman woke up to noises at the bedroom window.

Captain Andre’ Beetge said she allegedly saw a hand holding a firearm reaching through the blinds.

“She grabbed the hand and a struggle ensued as the suspect attempted to climb through the window.

“A shot was fired and her 64-year-old husband was wounded in his stomach while he was lying on the bed,” said Beetge.

He said the second incident was reported at a house in Azalia Park, at about 04:10 when a couple sleeping in their TV room was woken up by a shot being fired inside the house.

Two suspects were already inside and fired at the couple.

“The husband started throwing household items at them. They fired another shot at him after which they fled from the house.

“The couple then went to the room of their 7-year-old son, who they found hiding under his duvet, unharmed. They then discovered that their dog (a bull terrier) was shot and killed by the suspects,” Beetge said.

The suspects also took three cell phones, personal belongings, and an electric amplifier from the house.

Despatch police a case of attempted and two cases of house robbery arising from the two incidents.
