Man who raped teenager at his house sentenced to two life terms in PE

Convicted child rapist, Amor Van Greunen was sentenced to two life imprisonment terms by the Port Elizabeth Regional Court on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old was found guilty of raping a teenager who had been in his care in July 2019.

The victim, who was 15-years-old at the time, stayed with her mother and brother at a safe haven in the Metro.

Van Greunen and his wife were frequent visitors at the haven and often performed charitable deeds there.

The couple took a liking to the young girl and would sometimes invite her to spend a weekend with them in their home.

However, one weekend in July 2019, when van Greunen's wife was away in Oudtshoorn, he bought the victim clothes and alcohol.

He encouraged her to drink and told her that it was safer for her to drink in his company than in the company of her friends. After she drank he raped her twice.

On the 27th of July 2019, the minor reported the crime to her teacher via a WhatsApp message. The teacher came to fetch her and immediately took her to Algoa Park Police station. Van Greunen was arrested on the same day.

The prosecutor, Mxolisi Bebula, told the court that Van Greunen had abused his power as he had established a bond with the victim and her family.

He added that there were no substantial or compelling circumstances which would warrant the court to deviate from the minimum sentence of life imprisonment.

The magistrate then ordered the two life sentences to run concurrently.
