Gqeberha police are appealing to residents in Central to assist them in tracing a suspect who fatally shot a man and wounding a woman in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says it is alleged that a group of young adults was standing at the corner of Parliament and Lawrence Streets when an unknown man approached them and started to make a nuisance of himself.
She says when he refused to leave, an argument became physical when one person from the group slapped the man.
The man left and returned within minutes with a firearm and fired shots at the group.
22-year-old Abongile Mgu was fatally wounded while a 21-year-old woman sustained a bullet wound in the abdomen.
The suspect fled on foot.
Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.
Anyone who may know the suspect or his whereabouts is asked to contact the Humewood police.
