Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident at the notorious Voëlklip lookout point at Herolds Bay near George on Thursday, where a 59-year-old man's body was retrieved from the water below the cliff.
A preliminary investigation suggests that law enforcement personnel, who were on patrol in the area, spotted the body floating in the water.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Christopher Spies says emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene, and police divers retrieved the body.
Further investigations at the scene later linked the deceased to the wreckage of a bakkie, also found in the water at the bottom of a nearby cliff.
Spies says while police did manage to trace the deceased's next of kin, his identity would not be released at this stage.
